Refractory Epilepsy & Surgery Evaluation
Drug-Resistant (Refractory) Epilepsy occurs when seizures persist despite trying two or more appropriately chosen anti-seizure medications. Comprehensive evaluation determines whether surgical removal or disconnection of the seizure focus can cure or reduce seizures.
Diagnostic Workup Protocol:
- Video-EEG Monitoring (VEEG): Continuous inpatient monitoring to capture and map ictal seizure onset.
- Epilepsy-Protocol 3T MRI: High-definition structural imaging to identify hippocampal sclerosis, focal cortical dysplasia, or cavernomas.
- Functional & Neuropsychological Mapping: Memory and language assessment to preserve vital brain functions.
- Multidisciplinary Case Conference: Tailored surgical plan (Anterior Temporal Lobectomy, Lesionectomy) for eligible candidates.
