Acute Stroke Management & IV Thrombolysis

Acute ischemic stroke is a medical emergency that occurs when blood flow to brain tissue is obstructed by a clot. Timely intervention within the critical 4.5-hour golden window is paramount to dissolve the obstruction and save brain cells from permanent damage.

Clinical Procedure & Protocol:

• Emergency Triage & Neuroimaging: Immediate clinical neurological assessment (NIHSS scale) followed by emergency non-contrast Brain CT/MRI scan to exclude hemorrhage.
• Intravenous Thrombolysis: Administration of recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rtPA) or Tenecteplase for eligible ischemic stroke patients within 4.5 hours.
• Intensive Neuro-Monitoring: 24-48 hour ICU monitoring of blood pressure, blood glucose, and neurological signs.
• Secondary Prevention: Antiplatelet therapy, statins, risk factor modification, and comprehensive neuro-rehabilitation.
